Exposition 'Vermeer by a new generation' - Students of Atelier Sint Lucas in the Vermeer Center Delft
From March 1 to May 31, Vermeercentrum Delft presents the exhibition 'Vermeer by a new generation'. Students of Atelier Sint Lucas from The Hague show a special collection of small, refined works inspired by Vermeer's masterful painting. From detailed studies to modern interpretations, the exhibition illustrates how his legacy lives on in today's art.
A Delft tribute to Vermeer
Atelier Sint Lucas was co-founded by Delft artist Arjan van Gent and named after the Lucas Guild, to which Vermeer once belonged. The studio has offered classical art education for 25 years, combining traditional techniques with contemporary perspectives.
As one of twelve Master painters, Van Gent played a prominent role in the TV program "The New Vermeer," in which some of his students also participated. They collaborated on the episode about 'The Second Street' and presented their own free interpretations of Vermeer's work. Van Gent additionally reconstructed 'Venus, Jupiter and Mercury,' for which Pip Greenaway - daughter of filmmaker Peter Greenaway - was the model. This work will now be given a permanent place in the Vermeer Center Delft.

The exhibition will be opened by Peter Greenaway, internationally renowned filmmaker and Vermeer enthusiast. About Vermeer, he said in 1996, "The French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard has said that Vermeer was the first cinematographer, because his paintings fulfilled the two most important elements of cinematography: the world is composed entirely of light, and the world is captured and immortalized in fractions of a second."
